Funky Genoa Bay, Vancouver Island

There are very few places left on the west coast that still have the really funky feeling to them. Fortunately for us, two of the classics are located close by. Cowichan Bay has managed to maintain a funky feeling although with all the condos being built and high end food establishments going in it’s hard to believe that the old town feeling will last for long. It’s still pretty cool however.

Just off Cowichan Bay is Genoa Bay and while a few fancy houses are being built this little spot of paradise is still pretty intact. I was sitting with a boating buddy having lunch overlooking the marina and all that came to mind is; let’s stay for a week, this is wonderful. It didn’t hurt that the food was good and the weather warm but still, Genoa Bay is a best kept secret up here.

The float homes are amazing and well, just plain funky. There’s funky art decorating the float homes courtesy of Tom Faue who does amazing sculpture. Many of the boats are funky. Genoa Bay is funky!

I do so hope they leave this place the way it is, the world needs places with character(s) and history and originality in this condo world.

I agree and they are disappearing too quickly.
