Harris Hawks – Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum

We spent a wonderful afternoon at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum near Tucson and were able to watch Harris Hawks in action courtesy of the hawk handling staff. What a site as these majestic birds would swoop low over our heads for tiny bits of mouse or quail meat. What impressed me most was how quickly they could turn and dive but I guess if your survival depends on these capabilities you get good at it.

Harris hawks have beautiful coloring as can be seen from the first photo. The second is in the dive position; I would sure hate to be a small rodent looking up with this coming down on me.

Be sure to take a look at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum web site.
