Nikon D300 – Wow!

I’ve been waiting for the day when I could afford to have 2 good quality digital cameras again. About 4 months ago Nikon announced what appeared to be the perfect answer to my requirements. The D300 has the same resolution as my high end D2X, newer generation electronics and something I was really interested in, a small compact size for travel work. All of this packaged in a well made, light weight body.

I immediatly put my name on a purchasing list as often these new cameras are very difficult to purchase for the first 3 to 6 months. A few days ago the D300 became available. Rumour had it that the high ISO image quality was way beyond what we are used to and my first session was to explore this rumour. What can I say, the images are very impressive. Photographs like this of the Queen of Nanaimo at dusk were very┬ámarginal with my other camera. The D300 turns out very clean images in dark conditions. More images and comments to follow as I’m shooting some night Christmas parades and fireworks in the next few days.
