I’m certainly not a jellyfish expert but I have always been interested in these strange animals that we see floating around our waters. These are a few recent sightings from Portland Island and Sidney Island. Identification may come later, stick with me!

That reddish one kind of resembles a terra cotta sun face I have on the porch. And that clear one on the sand…remind me to always wear something on my feet when beachcombing! Great photos!!

It’s great sharing these facinating creatures with everyone. I’ll certainly provide more information once I learn a little more!
Deborah, my wife wouldn’t go swimming a few weeks ago because there were too many of these swimming around, I’m not sure if they sting, assume they do!
Very interesting jellyfish. Glad that you too solved the hyperlink problem. Now if I could figure out why I can’t add you to my blogroll, all would be well.

Hi,
Did you ever find out what jellyfish this was? I live in the San Juans, and saw a bunch of these recently, and was really intrigued by them.
Nice photos!
Hi Sheila,
I have yet to identify them. Of all the reference books I own I don’t have a good jellyfish book. Time to find one! I also haven’t found much info on the internet. I find with mushrooms the internet is great but jellyfish??
I think these are Lion’s Mane Jellyfish. Amazing! I have some cool pix of them swimming.
