Mount Tzouhalem Ecological Reserve

The Mt. Tzouhalem Ecological Reserve located near Duncan in the Cowichan Valley is an amazing area for wildflowers. Being located primarily on the exposed lower slopes of Mount Tzouhalem the species found are different from the Honeymoon Bay Wildflower Reserve which is primarily forested. Mt. Tzouhalem Ecological Reserve was spectacular with shooting star, buttercup and […]
Honeymoon Bay Wildflower Reserve

I have wanted to visit the Honeymoon Bay Wildflower Reserve near Cowichan Lake for a number of years and finally had my chance. What a beautiful place! It’s still early in the spring but the pink fawn lilies and trillium are at their peak and bleeding heart and violets were looking great as well. I […]
Spring on Wallace Island, Gulf Islands, British Columbia

A little late this year but spring has finally arrived on the islands.

Pink Fawn Lilies (Erythronium revolutum) are plentiful in a number of areas on the Cowichan River and throughout Vancouver Island although they tend to be in isolated patches. The white fawn lily is far more common.

A sure sign that spring has arrived; the fawn lilies and trillium are finally making their appearances.

For those that are interested, most of my close-up photography of flowers is with the Sigma 150mm macro lens. This […]
Indian Canyon

We spent yesterday morning hiking in Indian Canyons, a native area of the Aqua Caliente Cahuilla Indians. Located just south of Palm Springs, this area is amazingly lush with numerous streams flowing through tight valleys. As is typical of this area, where you have water you have palm trees and the oasis was stunning. Walking up […]
Cowichan Valley Scenery

I decided that I was accumulating too many images that really didn’t have a proper gallery to exist in. Cowichan Valley Scenery will solve that problem at least temporarily. Mostly scenery, a few other images and….. Cowichan Valley Scenery gallery http://newzealandgeneric.com/
Cowichan Bay

I spent last Friday in Cowichan Bay photographing the early morning light and also the late evening sunset. Cowichan Bay is a funky town that really does have character. For boat lovers there are hundreds of gorgeous power and sailboats to drool over as well as an interesting maritime museum. For food lovers there are […]
