Complete Guide to High Dynamic Range Digital Photography

I have been exploring the use of HDR (High Dynamic Range) photography for about a year now and while I haven’t actually produced anything of value I still am fascinated by the results that one can achieve. What I have learned is that producing amazing photographs with HDR is a lot more difficult than it appears. It seems that the post production end of the photograph is as difficult if not more difficult than the actual shooting, not surprising.

Ferrell McCollough has written a fabulous book describing how he performs magic on so many of his images. For those not familiar with his work, take a look at his web site Before the Coffee. The web site includes many photos and some excellent tutorials on technique and software. Ferrell’s work is true art (my interpretation, yours may be different!), not the oversaturated gaudy photos that HDR often produces.

The book is surprisingly affordable and if you are excited about this new form of photography is a must read!
